Scientists Extract Proteins from 68-Million-Year-Old Tyrannosaurus

Hmm. Let's read on.

"As far as the hypothesis that protein would not survive more than a million years," he notes, "we have obviously proven that to be false." from Playfuls.com
I have a question. When two assumptions are proven impossible to coexist, which one is the incorrect assumption?

Could it be that scientists are correct that proteins can't survive a long period of time before breaking down? My money is on that.
